Why Learning About Other Cultures is So Important for Children
At Rock and Roll Daycare, we pride ourselves on immersing children in different cultures. For many, it may be the first time they’ve heard about the customs of other cultures. We use different methods to get them interested and learn. This is done through music, art, and language. All of the lessons are taught in the Montessori method. Children are encouraged to work at their own pace with their teachers as their guides.
As children learn about other cultures at our centers and through our Nanny Share program, they are getting more than the face value of the lesson. They are picking up life lessons at an early age that they can build upon as they get older. Let’s take a look at why it’s so important for children to learn about other cultures.
Erases Fears Children May Have
Many children have fear of the unknown. When they don’t know about a culture, they may be fearful for no reason at all. As they begin to learn about other cultures, they realize there’s nothing to fear at all. This is a huge benefit of learning about other cultures at a young age. If children can dispel their fears early on, they will be much better off as they get older.
Our Rock and Roll Daycare programs educate children about different cultures in a fun and non-intimidating way. They quickly see that learning about other cultures is fun. Recently, we’ve been teaching children about Mexico and its culture. They have been learning about music as well as Mexican art.
Bullying can begin at a young age. The sooner children learn that there’s no place for bullying based on cultural beliefs and customs, the better off everyone will be. Instead of teasing others for their customs, they can learn how to celebrate them. They may even pick up some new musical talents and be encouraged to try new foods that have roots in the cultures they are learning about.
Our environment at Rock and Roll Daycare is a very inviting one. We encourage our students to welcome everyone at a young age. We believe teaching inclusion and allowing children to celebrate their differences is a vital part of the education process.
When children learn about other cultures, they learn about the wonderful diversity that exists around the planet. While they may be young to grasp the entire concept, they will certainly learn enough that will plant the seed.
At Rock and Roll Daycare, we love that we can be the one who helps to plant the seed and teach our students about diversity. Through our centers and Nanny Share program, kids are absorbing so much information about different cultures.
