At Rock and Roll Daycare, we are always telling you what we’re doing to get children’s minds moving to engage them and get them learning. While we love doing this, focusing on parents is just as important.
These days parents have more on their plates than ever before which can make the days even more trying. But, there are things you can do as a parent to reduce the stress and live in the moment. Being mindful is one way to accomplish this.
How can you, as a parent, be mindful? We have some tips.
What does it mean to be mindful?
Being mindful means paying attention to the moment and accepting what is going on right then and there. With so many distractions it can be hard to simply be present. This means ignoring the alerts on your phone, turning off the tv, and just simply being. We know this is a tough one. But, it can be done!
When you’re mindful, you’re also conscious of how you’re talking to your kids. You may yell out of frustration, but this is not helping you to be mindful. If you think about how you’re talking to your child, you can have a better relationship with them. This also comes into play in how you react to them when they do something wrong. Yelling is not going to solve anything and it may even get them scared. For more info on how to talk to your kids and be mindful, check out Chris’ podcast on our Instagram page. He has some great insight on this topic.
Ways to be Mindful
When you talk about mindfulness, many parents like the idea, but don’t know how to accomplish it. Here are some simple ways you can be a more mindful parent:
Make Time for Self-Care: Take a walk, read a book, do something for yourself, even if it’s just for a few minutes. This will help you relax and tune into the important people in your life.
Start Your Day with a Positive Affirmation: When you wake up, repeat a positive affirmation. Hold it close to you throughout the day, especially when you start to feel frazzled.
Start a Journal: Many parents find it comforting to write about their feelings. Having a place to put all of your feelings can help you be more present in the moment.
