Rock and Roll Daycare exists to light the fire of creativity and imagination in every child through an advanced music and arts education, self directed learning and inspired by various divers World cultures.

At Rock and Roll Daycare your child will be immersed in diverse musical learning from infancy through age six, learning through carefully developed Fiddlefox curriculum. Whether plucking a Japanese song on a violin string for the first time, dancing to the rhythms and melodies of a Peruvian song, singing “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star” in Italian language, or premiering African beats in a drum solo for an audience of their peers, our students spend a significant portion of every day honing their musical skills through a combination of specialist-led instruction and independent music play.

An attractive prepared environment is curated by the classroom teachers to provide your child with a safe learning space. Infants and young toddlers build trusting relationships with loving caregivers, freely moving and exploring their environment. Individual transitions and body care become a special time which caregivers spend conversing with and introducing each child to the world around them. Older toddlers and preschoolers engage in periods of uninterrupted work time which ensures that individual children have the time to settle into a task that interests them and are not unnecessarily interrupted when they are engaged in a worthwhile activity. During the work period, teachers observe the behaviors of the children and invite individuals and small groups to short lessons when they see opportunities to assist a child’s progress. Practical life/care-of-self activities such as serving snack, eating snack, and washing dishes after snack, as well as using the toilet (learning how to push down pants, how to sit on toilet, how to wash hands when done, etc.) are an important part of the toddler’s day, while sensorial activities (pouring, spooning, cylindrical knobs), language and math (pre-writing, counting beads), science and culture become that of the preschooler. Music Centers / Extended Music

We believe the most meaningful learning happens when students make discoveries at their own pace in their own time. In the spirit of the Montessori teaching philosophy, our classrooms are equipped with carefully designed music centers for free music exploration during the school day. Our music centers feature a variety of instruments with unique and varied textures of sound appropriate to your child’s age group and curated to stimulate a wide array of fine motor functions. Preschool children have the opportunity to practice their chosen instrument in classes as part of their daily routine.

Group Music Classes

On any given day of the week, Rock and Roll Daycare students sing, dance, shake, create, and play during daily group classes from each of our five early childhood music specialists. Our music staff comes from a diverse background of teaching and performance styles from classical violin to contemporary folk and jazz. Our teachers use a range of techniques including creative movement, improvisation, puppetry, collaborative storytelling, and Dalcroze Eurhythmics to spark the imaginations of the next generation of creative pioneers.

Cultural Currents

Rock and Roll Daycare is committed to developing global citizens with an appreciation and understanding of peoples and cultures from around the world and in our local community. Every two months, a new culture is integrated into the classroom and music curricula. Students learn about new cultures through community ambassador visits, singing songs in foreign languages, retelling folklore, and creating visual art inspired by our focus culture. At the end of the study period, students perform and display their musical and arts works at community International Nights, featuring parent/child cooking, a community potluck, and performances from guest artists. Past performers include Mariachi bands, Bharatanatyam artists, Irish steppers, Samba groups, youth Chinese instrumental ensembles, Opera singers, traditional Korean dancers, and many more.

Created for Rock and Roll Daycare Preschool by Executive Director of Revolution of Hope, David France, we believe that Orchestra is a strong symbol of a thriving diverse community and that music making can create an inclusive atmosphere that promotes stronger bonds between parents and children while also creating connections between families within an ensemble. We know that intensive music instruction which is more than once a week leads to exponential progress. Daily practice leads to ability and ability leads to skill which then leads to success and over time creates motivation which then creates a desire for daily practice. Group learning coupled with strategic individual attention can create an incredible furnace for learning. The orchestra becomes a model society where individual actions have an immediate effect on the community thereby teaching the inter-connectedness of life and humanity. When the ensemble is the focus of the learning, the child has an opportunity to learn how their personal progress can positively strengthen the community ensemble. (Read the Orchestra Core Values)

Throughout each school year, Rock and Roll Daycare students are introduced to an array new classroom materials designed to offer a deeper understanding of music notation in the style of Montessori teaching tools by the our sister company, and research and development wing, Fiddlefox. These materials are introduced and studied by our staff over the course of the school year beginning with our oldest preschool students and moving slowly to our youngest students. The materials offer hands-on, self-correcting tasks that will develop a child’s musical sensibility and prepare him or her to read music notation at the elementary level. Fiddlefox also publishes new illustrated songbooks, music recordings, and activity books based on our Cultural Currents curriculum to strengthen the connection between music learning in the classroom and at home.

These materials are the basis for our cultural studies, and we urge families to bring the music to life in your home by using these beautiful books and audio recordings. This unique program offers parents an opportunity through music and culture to create a stronger bond with their children by extra curricular parent/child events and classes, such as International Night, Family Singalongs, and Training Sessions.

Contributors include New York based music producer Marc Diaz, GRAMMY award winning recording engineer, Jeremy Loucas, Illustrator Gabriela Issa Chacon, and Fiddlefox founders, Christopher Vuk and Phil Berman. (Learn more about Fiddlefox)

Child Performances

Performance opportunities to showcase a student’s talent and hard work are a critical part of any music education. At Rock and Roll Daycare, we offer our students a safe space to perform, take risks, and experiment while still being supported and nurtured by their school and parent community. Students perform at special seasonal events throughout the year, including the Spring Tea, Summer Carnycue, Winter Holiday Show, and bimonthly International Night events. We also host monthly “open mic” events for students to perform for an audience of only their peers and teachers. Rock and Roll students mounted put on a yearly production, such as Saint Saens “The Carnival of the Animals”.
